Lets face it when we all think of venetians we probably have the same thought…They must have come from Venice! But Venetian blinds actually originate from Persia in the 1700s and since then have been a popular choice of window covering.

Venetian traders discovered the window coverings through trade in the East and brought them back to Venice and Paris. 

Originally Venetian blinds had fixed slats and were crafted out of wood and stained to requirements tied together with strips of cloth ribbon.

In 1769 the Venetian blind was patented by Edward Bevan – Piccadilly, London; carpenter and blind maker he charged at the rate of one shilling per sq. ft. .
